Summer Learning Opportunities
At VisionWay Christian School learning doesn’t halt over the summer months. During the morning hours of summer, several activities are offered to students which help enforce and maintain the important skills they have been taught throughout the year. The planned activities are numerous and something is available for any elementary age group.
First off, summer enrichment programs open doors for students to dig deeper into subjects which were presented during pull-out and whole class enrichment activities throughout the school year. This year students in 2nd- 5th grades were introduced to the science of forensics and had a blast learning about this important and exciting field of science. For one week of summer (M-TH), students will be able to return to VCS and dive into more forensic activities as the enrichment group investigates and solves several mysteries using the scientific method and forensic testing.
Other week-long enrichment offerings for 2nd- 5th graders include Caught Up in Coding and Math Madness. The first offering builds on the skills presented at the VisionWay Hour of Code while the second helps students sharpen math skills through a variety of fun, group games. Younger students are able to participate in Junior Enrichment, a camp providing a blend of math, science, and coding experiences which have been tailored down to kindergarten and first grade students. The enrichment camps are hosted by Mrs. Tracie Johnson, Program Coordinator for VisionWay.
Students who wish art was offered every day during the school year will want to participate in Miss Rose’s art camps on Wednesday mornings through the summer. Since these sessions are open to students and parents alike, the art camps provide a convenient way to schedule some fun one-on-one time with a student who enjoys being creative. Miss Rose has planned a wide range of activities which include print making, animation, and sculpting.
Finally, for any parent who wants to ensure his or her student has mastered any given skill, tutoring sessions are also available on Tuesdays and Thursdays in two four week sessions through the summer months. The purpose of the summer tutoring program is to assist students in mastering skills they struggled with during the year and make sure they are well prepared to advance to the next grade level. Activities include one-on-one tutoring that incorporate hands-on learning and fun games to enhance math, phonics, and reading/writing skills. Miss Rose and Miss Dexheimer coordinate the summer tutoring efforts and art camp.
Enrollment forms for all three programs have been sent home with VisionWay students. However, if you have any questions or are interested in having a student enroll in any of the above offerings, you can contact the program facilitator. Miss Rose can be reached at email@example.com and Mrs. Johnson’s email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to the fun that will be had by VCS students this summer as they join us for these unique learning experiences!
